Overview

The “Global Japanese Studies Researcher’s Database”(国際日本研究者データベース) (hereafter mentioned as the “database”) is a database of scholars engaged in global Japanese studies located in of Japan mainly. The database is run by the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (hereafter referred as “Nichibunken”). At present, this database contains two types of researcher information. First, it contains information about researchers affiliated to the member institutions (full and associate members) of the Consortium for Global Japanese Studies, and second, information of members of team research projects organized by Nichibunken. In our endeavor to keep the data new and relevant, we have included only the team research projects data from 2015 onwards.

The information available on this database may help users to understand the trends, patterns and size of Japanese studies in Japan. Nichibunken aims to facilitate researchers finding other scholars having specific research interests while planning a team research project, request a lecture, or finding a researcher with specific skill sets for various purpose. Moreover, this database intends to continue collect and offer new information with the development of “Global Japanese Studies” as the number of research institutes and researchers involved in Japanese Studies in Japan and abroad increases year by year.

This database offers mainly two search methods. First, you can search Japanese studies institutions and researchers by entering free keywords in the search field provided at the top page. Second, you can also search for researchers from the list of member institutions affiliated to the Consortium for Global Japanese Studies. In addition to basic information such as the researcher's name and affiliation, the search results page also offers information other information like the researcher’s field of specialization, research interests, research keywords, and past participation in Nichibunken’s team research projects. The field of specialization also has a tagging function that allows you to perform across-searching of researchers with similar fields.
